Welcome
Hi everyone and welcome..
I grew up with two women who seemed to know something about everyone I ever wanted to know about – not surprising I guess, as they were both born in the 1800′s and the information they had was first-hand.. The prime sources of information was the written word, the ‘hatches, batches and dispatches’ were carefully studied and remembered each week.. These ladies had seen many changes already by the time I was around them to ask questions..
Through these ladies, I was lucky enough to taste the values of Colonial Australia first hand, and walking into either home was like walking through Alice’s Looking Glass, or nowadays, a Star-Gate.. I know my curiousty was whetted by their wisdom and knowledge, and luckily for all of you, I haven’t been wholly satisfied yet.
one tiny caution
The answer to every question I asked them, inspired the asking of at least three or four more.. and this seems to be the way of family history tracing and tracking in general.. I have not been too troubled to curb my passion for this knowledge, but I warn you.. be aware of how much you want to know – not because of a skeleton-in-the-closet that might just jump out when you least expect it, but because unless you know how much you want to know.. you may very well fall in to the abyss… and become just a tad obsessive.( actually, i think that very quality may be a pre-requisite for a dedicated researcher.)
I hope you enjoy these posts, and pages, and if you can get just a bit of the satisfaction I have had on this path I will be happy.
Happy Hunting !
